What are adzes used for?

Adzes were used by woodworkers for cutting and trimming rough wooden planks and shaping and smoothing wooden surfaces. They acted both as carving knives and as planes.

What is a drawknife used for?

The draw knife is a tool that can be used in many ways: for stripping bark from trunks, for trimming and fitting beams or square beams or square timbers during renovations, and also as a creative artistic tool in the hands of a wood sculptor. 

What is a froe?

A froe (or frow), shake axe or paling knife is a tool for cleaving wood by splitting it along the grain. It is an L-shaped tool, used by hammering one edge of its blade into the end of a piece of wood in the direction of the grain, then twisting the blade in the wood by rotating the haft (handle).
