What kind of bandsaw blade do I need?

For general ripping and crosscutting, use a 1/2" 3 tpi standard or hook-tooth blade. For resawing, use the widest 3tpi skip or variable tooth blade your saw accepts. Typically, the wider the blade, the straighter it cuts. Cutting green (undried) wood requires the widest 2–3tpi skip-tooth blade your saw accepts.

Are bandsaw blades worth sharpening?

Bandsaw blades are typically discarded when they become dull. The only exception to this would be a carbide-tipped blade, some of which can have the long-lasting carbide tips sharpened. Given the number of teeth on a bandsaw blade, the cost to have a sharpening service sharpen a blade quickly adds up.
