What is a bevel edged chisel used for?

As the name suggests the bevel edge chisel has bevelled edges which helps reach into tight spaces and acute angles when making joinery. They are used for rough chopping in conjunction with a mallet, as well as for fine paring by hand.

What is the best bevel for a chisel?

Sharpen bench chisels with a 25° bevel angle for best results. If you want to add a micro-bevel (a thin, secondary edge right at the tip that makes touch-up honing easier), then go with 30° for O1 and 35° for A2.

How do you sharpen a bevel edged chisel?

1. Grinding and Flattening: Grinding a fresh 25° primary bevel and flattening the back of the chisel
2. Honing and Lapping: Creating the 30° micro-bevel and removing any burrs
3. Stropping: Polishing and fine tuning a razor sharp edge on the tip of a chisel
