There's a right tool for the job, even when it comes to awls.
Workshop Application
I find myself reaching for this awl before any of my others, the cutting edges do a great job of making a neat hole and it is very sharp. Highly recommend it, the price and quality are fantastic.
I bough one of these a year ago after being shown it by Brian. It just makes sense, having four cutting edges on its square tapered shaft. It always self-centers and cuts quickly without splitting soft timber. I use it on hard woods too.
it is such a clever idea. Wish I had thought of that! Robin.
Best buy and great quality.
This is a very hard to find tool, even on the net. It is a four sided pyramidical shaped awl. It fits easily in the hand and is one of those simple and inexpensive tools that one simply cannot do without! Well, I can't. It is otherwise known as a birdcage awl from the days of yore when men still made wooden birdcages and this little tool really excels at its task.
For starting screws and a millennia of small hole applications, simply put the point on the mark push lightly and swivel...that's all there is to it.
I fully recommend this quality product from Narex. (And no, you won't find one from any other supplier in Southern Africa!
