Narex Richter chisel blades are crafted from the finest Chrome Vanadium (Cr-V) steel using traditional drop-forging methods. The blades are hardened, cryogenically treated, and tempered to achieve a minimum hardness of 62 HRc. Cryogenic treatment cools the steel down to −190°C (−310°F), using liquid nitrogen to alter its mechanical properties at a molecular level, significantly increasing its strength, toughness, and wear resistance.

Subsequent fine-grinding and polishing provide a mirror-like finish with ultra-thin sides (0.5 mm, approximately 1/50 inch), allowing access to very tight spaces. This makes them ideal chisels for cleaning out dovetails. The front bevel is ground at 24 degrees.

The Narex Richter Unhandled Chisels are supplied with square, untapered tangs. The tang hole must be accurately sized to ensure a snug fit without splitting the handle. A 9.5 mm (3/8 inch) pilot hole is typically suitable for most American compressive hardwoods such as hickory, maple, ash, and oak. This hole size may need to be adjusted for softer woods or increased for harder exotic timbers.

The Narex Richter Unhandled Chisels include a solid stainless-steel ferrule and a leather shock washer. The stainless steel ferrules have an outer diameter of 19.05 mm (0.750 inch), an inner diameter of 17.02 mm (0.670 inch), and a height of 18.03 mm (0.710 inch). The ferrules feature an inside bevel for easy insertion and are properly annealed (hardened) to prevent splitting when tangs are driven into the handle. Each ferrule is laser-etched with the Richter logo.
